Needlelace Leaf on Canvas

Needlelace Leaf on Canvas -- click for an enlarged viewPrepainted and pre-machined stitched canvas will be the base for needlelace techniques and stitches. Worked in pearl cottons, metallic threads, and beads. Lace is worked  over a pattern on canvas. When completed, the canvas behind the lace is removed. The machine stitching will be the base for the lace stitches. A second fabric layer with small snips of Dupioni silk adhered (without stitching) will be seen through the needlelace leaf. Stitches taught include couching, Brussels stitch and Pea stitch and variations, Cordonnet and Cordonnette, Buttonhole (corded) and beading.

Technique: Open work on canvas with needlelace techniques and stitches

Proficiency Level: All levels

Design Size: 5" x 5"

Kit Fees/Contents: $45; Pearl cottons #12, #8, and #5; metallic threads #8 and #16 braid, Candlelight and Sulky metallic sewing threads. Ground fabric is prepainted and pre-machine stitched 18-count canvas. The lower layer of fabric is muslin, along with a variety of Autumnal colored silk Dupioni fabrics. Also in the kit is "Steam a Seam II" and, for use in class, several colors of metallic pens (optional, if desired).

Student Supplies: Usual sewing supplies, including scissors (small sharp, and paper), an assortment of needles, including a #22 chenille, #8 crewel, #22 tapestry, #18 chenille, and a beading needle, scotch tape, a pencil, and extra lighting and magnification (if desired). Any other supplies necessary will be outlined in the student letter.
