 Annual Meeting: Saturday, April 8th
 Meeting Site:
Thistle Needleworks, 1005 Hebron Avenue,
Glastonbury, CT 06033 Schedule for the Day:  10 am to 2:30 pm Program:  "Choosing
Threads for a Painted Canvas" -- Judie Solomon
Because this is our Annual Meeting, we have planned a special day.
Judie will introduce us to new fibers, explain color choices, and have advice on
suggested stitches and patterns.  Even if you do not stitch painted
canvases, you can apply what you will learn from this exercise to other types of
embroidery.
Judie and her staff will select threads that they think will enhance each of
several canvases, choosing from a wide variety of threads and colors, solids and
over-dyed or hand-dyed threads, always including lots of textures.  We will
review what was chosen and discuss the pros and cons of each choice.
We will also talk about suggested stitches and finishing ideas for each
canvas.
When our discussion is over, we will share items brought for show and tell,
and hold a very short meeting to elect officers for the 2006- 2008 term.
Remember to bring your challenge piece, using Susan Jones' rose
design.
After the meeting, we will go out to lunch at Eleni's at Buckingham, a short ride
from the store.  You may have a salad, a choice of four entrees, dessert,
and coffee or tea.  Wine may be purchased separately if you wish.  A
description of the entrees follows:
Veal Marsala -- veal sautéed in butter and swirled in Marsala wine with
fresh sliced mushrooms Please fill in the registration coupon at the end of this newsletter, marking
your choice of entrée.

Stitching Getaways:  The following is the schedule for the West Side Day
group.  They will meet in the months that we do not have a chapter meeting,
and a focus for each meeting is listed below:

The West Side Day group will be
meeting from 10 AM to 1:30 PM at Suzanne Newton's house in West Simsbury.
Bring along your lunch and a project you are working on and/or any project you
would like to share.  Please email or phone Suzanne at
sfnjsn@sbcglobal.net or 860-658-2037 if you plan to
attend.
Pequot Colony - The New London Library has been undergoing major
renovation starting in October of 2005.  Rather than trying to find another
room where they can meet, they have decided to have their stitch-ins at various
members' homes.  The schedule for April and May is as follows:
 4/20/06 - Steph Thorp's house at 1227 Flanders Road, Mystic 06355 (off
Rte. 184 on the Groton side) Barb Crum's house will be backup for any month that the hostess named isn't
available.  Doris Boas will be a backup for Barb, especially in the
winter.
If more information is needed, call Doris Boas at 860-572-8441, or email @ ndboas@sbcglobal.net

There will be a reasonable additional cost for crystals, but that will be discussed in class. Take advantage of this wonderful offer, as our chapter will pay the teacher's fee and transportation costs. News for October
We are planning to have a workshop on blackwork in October. Our idea is that each of those interested will stitch small samples on a variety of fabrics which will be put in a notebook to be used as a reference for future projects and a directory of wonderful patterns. All you will need to bring is floss and the usual stitching supplies. Stay tuned for more details..............
Southern Maine Chapter of EGA is excited to share with you their latest fundraiser; 'Mary's 1809 Sampler Tote Bags'. The bags were created from an Antique Sampler made by Mary in 1809 in her fifteenth year. The verse on Mary's Sampler reads.............
Youth blooms like spring like spring is gone,
But
never will like spring return,
It lends a bright but transient ray
And
like a flower it fades away.
The actual lettering in the verse has 'f' in place of
's' as in so many antique samplers.  The following is a link to view my
actual sampler; you may be able to read the verse from this site. I'm happy to
share it with you.  http://www.geocities.com/shootstmx/   The site also has a link to an order form.
We are selling our bags for $30, which includes a chart designed by Denise
Pratt.  The chart is for a motif from the Sampler which is suitable for a
Needle case or Pincushion.
The bag is very nicely made with a square sewn base to make it stand.
It is fully lined in black with good quality heavy black twill material
with a nice size pocket -- the handles are long enough to place over the
shoulder.  We are very happy with the result.  I have attached images
of the finished bag.
Please Note that orders from out-of-state are tax exempt; postage for one bag
is $5 but I am happy to quote postage for multiple orders.  I mention this
because our order form is not explicit.
Thank you in advance for sharing this information with your members.
