A coupon is provided for this meeting.  The deadline for registration is November 1.

Saturday, February 5th, 2022     Zoom Class with Celeste Chalasani
         and
Saturday, March 5th, 2022         "Summer Serenade" with
                                                            detached wire slips

Sweet living in the summertime!  Imagine a warm summer morning with juicy blackberries glistening in the sun.  Bees buzz on their search for nectar while a caterpillar lazily crawls along a stem.  This stump work class brings this vision to life as students learn and practice a variety of dimensional stitches and padding techniques.

There is a change of plans for this month so that we can offer a wonderful class with Celeste via Zoom.  On each day we will have approximately 6 hours of instruction.  The price of the kit is $40 and will include instructions, silk shantung, cotton fabric, stranded cotton thread, pearl cotton, beads, felt needles and 33 gauge wire.

Students will need to have the following supplies to participate in the virtual program:
12” x 12” Evertite frame or stretcher bars or 8-1/2” embroidery hoop
            cream colored sewing thread
            masking tape
            needle threader
scissors for cutting paper and felt
            usual stitching supplies
            magnification is highly recommended

Because of the difficulty in securing supplies, the deadline for signing up for this class is November 15th.  Please send your registration coupon before that date and/or email Linda Berry at lindaberry343@gmail.com to let her know that you intend to participate on these dates.

A coupon is provided for this meeting.  The deadline for registration is November 15.

Saturday, April 2nd, 2022         Annual Meeting

Our program on this date will be in person at Thistle Needleworks.  We will have lots of Show and Tell, including showing progress we have made on the crewel piece and the rozashi project begun at the October meeting.

In addition, we will elect officers for the 2022-2024 year.  If you are interested in filling one of the following positions, please contact any of the board members:  President, Vice-President (Program), Vice-President (Membership), Secretary, Treasurer, NER delegate.  Board members' contact information is on our website.

Saturday, June 4th, 2022           Zoom Class with Wendy Moore
         and
Saturday, June 11th, 2022         "A Livelier Bargello Iris"

“This delightful bloom grows tall and proud on a fresh blue vintage canvas using Straw Silk, Silken Straw, Edmar Boucle` for the blossom, adding Caron Waterlilies for the leaves.  Over-dyed Perle cotton and floss fill out the frame.  As a design in Bargello and Laid Filling Stitches, it stitches up quickly in shades of lavender and purple in a multitude of values.  The background is left unstitched and the frame is simple Scotch couched long stitches, with unique corner and side motifs.  Watch as simple bargello stitches bring this iris to life!”

This class will be offered via Zoom on consecutive Saturdays for 3 hours on each day.  Because we are zooming for shorter time periods, these three hours will be mostly instruction with limited stitching.  The class is considered intermediate in level and is stitched on 18-count light blue vintage mono canvas.  The design size is 10 1/2” x 15 1/2”.  The kit cost is $95 and includes the 16” x 20” line drawn canvas, threads to include straw silks, Waterlilies, and solid and over-dyed cotton floss and pearl cotton, instruction booklet and needles.

Students will need to provide:
16” x 20” stretcher bars (one pair of each)
            tacks or staples
            laying tool
            usual stitching supplies
            light and magnification, if desired

Because of the difficulty in securing supplies, the deadline for signing up for this class is March 1st.  Please send your registration coupon before that date and/or email Linda Berry at lindaberry343@gmail.com to let her know that you intend to participate on these dates.

A coupon is provided for this meeting.  The deadline for registration is March 1.

Friday-Sunday, April 30th-May 1st, 2022     NER Seminar 2022
Sheraton Hotel in Rocky Hill, CT

UPDATE ON NER SEMINAR 2022
"The Stitches That Bind Us"
April 30 – May 1, 2022

This seminar is co-hosted by our chapter and Pioneer Valley Chapter, so as we get closer to the date, we’ll be asking for any helping hands who’d like to volunteer for little jobs.  We hope you’ll keep these dates on your calendar and register as early as possible.

Notes from NER Region Director Sue Polumbo:

NER positions that are open
   1. Assistant Region Director (ARD) - this person stays in contact with the Region Director (RD) and current with what is going on in both the region and on the national level.  This position does not mean that this person would have to be the next RD.  However, if something were to happen to the RD, the ARD would be expected to take over for the remainder of the RD's term or until a new RD is elected.
   2. After several years as the region's newsletter editor, Denise Pratt has resigned.  Denise has done a wonderful job with the newsletter.  The next newsletter editor does not have to do what Denise has done.  The editor may choose their own presentation.  The main goal of the newsletter is to gather information from the regional board meetings and the chapters and send it to all members of the region.

If you are interested in either of these positions, please contact me at biggregp@aol.com and I will answer your questions and clarify any concerns you may have.

National EGA

The editor of NeedleArts is retiring.  If you have experience in editing and publishing or know someone who has experience, you might want to consider this position.  It is a paid position.  Please read the description by the EGA President below.  I will look into whether you need to be a member of EGA.  This is a contracted position.

Cheryl Christian, EGA’s Needle Arts editor, has announced her retirement from the position.  Over the past 14 years, Cheryl has improved both the content and appearance of the publication, and her knowledgeable and detail-oriented approach will be missed.  She will close out her tenure with the December 2021 issue, and is looking forward to continuing her research into the history and cultural significance of embroidery and embroiderers, as well as returning on a more full-time basis to her own studio work in traditional embroidery, mixed-media embroidery, art quilting, pastel, watercolor, and botanical illustration.  She also plans to continue to teach in these areas.  Please join me in thanking Cheryl for her dedication and exemplary work, which has benefited all of us in EGA.

With Cheryl’s departure, we are searching for a new editor for Needle Arts.  Are you an experienced editor looking for a new opportunity, or do you know someone who might be interested in shepherding the publication into the future?  This independent contractor position includes responsibility for soliciting articles and projects, editing and proofreading, advertising sales, and production and printing coordination.  To express interest or request more information, please email president@egausa.org by October 31, 2021.
