"Blackwork Project" - Carolyn Standing Webb
Our meeting this month will be a class in blackwork designed by Carolyn Standing Webb. This
project includes four different patterns plus a border. The stitch count is 48 X 48, and a piece
of 9" X 9" linen (28-count) will be provided at the class. You may bring your own silk or cotton
threads in your color choice and a hoop or a pair of 9 inch stretcher bars.
The location will be our conference room at Duncaster.
Location: Duncaster Senior Residence in Bloomfield, CT
Time: Class will take place from 9:30 am to 4 pm
Studio Time option: If you don’t wish to take the class, you are very welcome to come
and stitch on your own pieces in the hallway (there’s a bright natural light alcove near our meeting
room) and join us for lunch. An opportunity for “me time” to work on your own projects!
Deadline to register for lunch is October 10th.

"Crewel Project" by Barbara Jackson
This meeting will be a study in crewel, using kits available from Barbara Jackson. The three
kits below can be chosen on the coupon at the end of this newsletter.
Descriptions are as follows, and a picture of the frame is above:
NAC-5a Blue Flower Design
Design size 2” x 2”. This perky bird wonders how he landed beside such a beautiful blue
flower. Kit contains design on overdyed linen, Heathway crewel wool, silk floss, needle and
complete instructions.

Design size 2” x 2”. A ladybug investigates the sunflower. Kit contains design on overdyed

Design size 2” x 2”. The artist sketched out a berry and flower before starting. Kit contains

Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 (Snow date: February
10th)
This meeting will be a stitch-in at Seabury. We will get together from 10am to 3pm, enjoying
lunch on our own in the Bistro restaurant on site.
Saturday, April 7th, 2018 Annual Meeting
A presentation by Judie Solomon on What’s New in our Stitching World will take place in the
morning along with a large Show and Tell session. After elections, we will go to lunch in a
Wethersfield restaurant to be determined.

At this meeting we hope to bring in a teacher for a one-day class. Plans are developing at
this time, and further information will be in future newsletters.

Please join us for a fun-filled 2-day bead embroidery workshop with Mary Alice Sinton!!
EGA has been the beneficiary of a sizable bequest from the estate of
Gay Phillips, a deceased member. Each Region has received a grant from these monies.
NER is using these funds to pay all the teaching, travel, and classroom rent costs for this two-day
workshop. The student’s only expenses are the kit and lunch fee.
We have chosen Paisley On Parade, a lovely beaded box top, for the class project. The
Paisley On Parade satin oval jewelry box is done in the Japanese bead embroidery method and is
an advanced beginner level piece. Bead Embroidery in the Japanese method incorporates silk
embroidery techniques translated with beads rather than silk threads. Paisley On Parade
will add pizazz to any vanity and serve as a home for a variety of treasures. During this
entry-level course, the student will embroider Paisley On Parade in a two-day workshop.
The beads used are a wide variety of glass seed beads. The foundation fabric is a floral 100% cotton
fabric called Chocolat by Moda.
