Saturday, October 15th - Creating Bargello Balls

Create a beautiful Christmas ornament, or just a happy hanging for the chandelier or a window.  Have you seen the balls that are all the rage by home decorators that are placed strategically on a table or mantle?  You can make a very special one that will be the highlight of a grouping in your home.

Workshop participants will provide four full skeins of cotton embroidery floss in the color of their choice -- one skein each of four values of the same color, very dark to very light -- and one card of FyreWerks or one reel of Balger 1/8" ribbon to coordinate, 7" x 12" stretcher bars, embroidery scissors, a laying tool, and magnification and/or light, if needed.  Your kit -- priced at $5.00 or less -- will include a 7" x 12" piece of 18-mesh canvas, a #22 tapestry needle, a Styrofoam ball for the finishing, and full instructions for both the stitching and finishing.

A coupon is attached to the end of this newsletter.  The deadline for signing up is October 8th, 2016.

BARGELLO CHALLENGE
Teacher:            Gail Stafford
Bargello Challenge is designed for intermediate and advanced stitchers who want to create their own bargello samplers.  There will be many decisions along the way, but the text is intended to guide students in making them.

Because each person will make different choices, it will be difficult to furnish an exact supply list for threads.  Students may need to purchase their own threads; they may be supplemented by embroidery floss, pearl cotton, or other threads that may be readily available.  The stitching can be done in a variety of threads: cotton, silk, Medici wool, metallic, rayon, soy, or other threads.  Students can mix different types of thread in their sampler but Persian yarn is not recommended for this project.

NEW ENGLAND REGION
“REGION DAY – NOW AND THEN”
Saturday, October 22, 2016
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Plymouth Church
87 Edgell Road
Framingham, Massachusetts

As you know by now, we have had to postpone the Phillips Grant workshop planned for this fall.  It has been moved to the fall of 2018.

In its place, we are going to hold the NER – Region Day 2016.  We are going back a way in our history to plan a region day similar to some from the “old” days.  But, it will not be all old.

There will be a lecture from our immediate past regional director, Beth Lindsay, about appraisals – what are they, how are they done, what does one look for in an antique, etc.

After a catered lunch, three afternoon workshops will be offered.  This is where the old and new really come to focus!  The old is our three presenters – not that they are old!  They have each been members of EGA for over 30 years.  Their workshops are both old and new!  Rosemary Carter of Merrimack Valley Chapter will be offering a beaded project.  Pat Timpanaro, also of MVC, will be presenting a needlepoint project.  Chris Gaugh of CRVC will be offering a counted project.  More details will be coming soon.  We, also, will provide space for studio time.

Registration forms will be sent out soon.  Arrangements with a caterer need to be finalized.  Costs to you will be for lunch and kits.

The NER Board looks forward to seeing you on October 22, 2016 in Framingham for a day of stitching and renewal of friendships in the crisp New England fall!
