50th Anniversary Luncheon

We are planning a lovely luncheon at a Glastonbury restaurant.  Invitations will be sent out to former members and officers, and displays of pictures from our past are being organized.  Even favors are being planned!

Part of our celebration will be a display of pieces from our workshops, seminars and our collection.  Please look through your possessions and bring along as many as five pieces or objects that were taught at CRVC.  It would be wonderful if you could have a card for each piece, listing the teacher, the year and any other pertinent information that you can find.  After lunch, a nice detour down Hebron Avenue to Thistle Needleworks is always a possibility.

We look forward to meeting with members and celebrating our chapter and its activities.  Please come and be a part of it.

"Spring Meadow" - Jeanette Rees

Spring awakens following the winter chills and blues with a young fawn quietly sitting in the meadow with a little owl looking down.

The class begins with color washing the canvas, on which the student will then do both surface and traditional stitching.  New blades of grass and blossoming flowers along with young trees are stitched with hand dyed threads and silk ribbon.  The large tree will be stitched on a separate piece of canvas, then padded and appliquéd to the main forest piece.  Dimension is enhanced by the use of padded batik fabric.

Creativity is encouraged, as students add their own touches to this stitched forest.  Color wash paints and brushes will be available for use in class.

This class will give the stitcher all the needed elements to complete the piece at home.

As part of our 50th Anniversary luncheon next April, we are planning a photographic display or computer slideshow of our history.  If you have photos from anything CRVC has done that you would be willing to share, please either email as a JPEG (200 dpi preferred for uniformity, 300 dpi OK) or carefully package and mail (they will be immediately scanned and returned).  Please identify people in the photos, or in the case of exhibits, who did the pieces pictured.  Email: hglord@cox.net   Postal Service:  Kathryn J. Lord, 403 Salmon Brook Street, Granby, CT 06035.  Thank you so much!

BANNER?

We believe there is a CRVC banner somewhere, and we'd like to have it for our big celebration.  Does anyone know where it might be?  If you have suggestions, please contact Kathryn Lord at hglord@cox.net.

CRVC Library

We have two new additions to the CRVC Library, thanks to Lisa Green.  Both are project booklets from EGA, the proceeds of which are going to CAP (www.childrensalopeciaproject.org).

The first is entitled Garden Party by Judy Jeroy and is listed as basic level surface stitchery.  It is a scene with six whimsical bugs –  grasshoppers and beetles, some with flower umbrellas  –  in the grass.  Each could be stitched alone, if you prefer.

The second is entitled Joy of Summer by Sylvia Murariu and encompasses a variety of surface embroidery techniques, all quite basic.  The picture is a summer hat embellished with flowers, beads, and sequins.  (It does not include any of the Romanian lace for which this teacher is known.)

These and all the other books in the CRVC Library are available for your perusal by contacting your librarian at 860-633-8503 or ThisNeedle@aol.com.  Is today the day you expand your horizons?
