"Sewing Church Linens" - Pat Crane
Pat Crane has graciously agreed to present this program during the morning. She has been teaching linen construction since 1983. Following six years as Directress of the Connecticut Diocesan Altar Guild, she established a small business, "Linens by Pat", in 1996. From that time she has produced and continues to produce countless church linens, from the small utility items to custom-designed fair linens for altars, large and small. In 1999, she published, "With these Hands….A Practical Guide to Sewing Church Linens." The book was expanded and reprinted in 2004. Now, following its third printing, her book continues to be a valuable and complete reference for sewers of church linens.
During the program, Pat will share stories about her sewing for churches experience. In addition to talking about her work, she will present a "Show and Tell" of her recent display for the CT Altar Guild. This includes several examples of her work and her book. For those who are interested, copies of her book will be available.
Reunion in April
After lunch, we would like to have a large show and tell. Please bring
your projects, finished or unfinished, that you have worked on since last April
or bring a favorite from the past. We’d also like to see class
pieces you have taken this year or exciting pieces you would like to share.

From Rt. 84 Westbound
[from Manchester]:
Take Rt. 291, exit 61. Follow Rt. 291 to Rt. 218
exit. Take left onto Rt. 218. Follow for about 3 miles. Take
right onto Rt. 189 and follow to the center of Bloomfield. Take a left on
Rt. 178. Continue straight on Rt. 178 for 1.4 miles. To use the new
front entrance, turn right onto Mountain Avenue and continue approx. ½ mile to
entrance on the left into Duncaster. From the Loeffler Road entrance or
the Mountain Avenue entrance, once on the campus, visitors should follow the
signs to the Aquatics & Fitness Center Entrance. Our meeting takes
place in the conference room one floor above the entrance level (4th
floor).
From Rt. 84 Eastbound
[from Farmington]:
Take exit 41. Go left on South Main Street
[which becomes North Main Street at West Hartford Center] for 4.6 miles to Rt.
185. Turn left on Rt. 185 for 1.8 miles. Turn right on Rt.
178. To use the new front entrance, after about ½ mile turn left onto
Mountain Avenue and continue approx. ½ mile to entrance on the left into
Duncaster. From the Loeffler Road entrance or the Mountain Avenue
entrance, once on the campus, visitors should follow the signs to the

"Polar Shadows" - Caela Conn Tyler
Caela is a nationally known teacher who will be coming to us from Denver, Colorado. In addition to being a lovely lady, she is a wonderful teacher and designer.
Polar Shadows, a frosty Norwegian scene, will present students with opportunities to experience several approaches to canvaswork; traditional canvaswork stitches, embroidery, exposed canvas patterns, and some unique layering using tulle and silk organza. Overdyed and hand-dyed cottons and silks, Burmilana, Accentuate, and iridescent beads offer significant contrasts, yet result in an overall subtle composition.
Contrasting textures, subtle interacting hues, and varied stitch techniques, along with touches of glitz and glitter, will truly entice students while remaining well within the realm of the intermediate proficiency level.
Please note that the deadline for signing up for this class is May 1st. A coupon for registration is at the end of this newsletter.
Time: Class will take place from 9 am to noon and 1 pm to 4 pm.
